Kristine Marie Hickman earns bachelor’s degree from Crown College

Kristine Hickman of Albert Lea received a bachelor of science degree in psychology, summa cum laude, through the adult and graduate studies program of Crown College in St. Bonifacius on May 9. Kristine and her husband, David, have two children: Meagan and Aimee. Kristine works at Brookside Education Center.

Melanie Piltingsrud graduates from KU

Melanie Piltingsrud from New Richland was awarded her master of arts in Germanic languages and literature and master of music during spring commencement exercises at the University of Kansas at Lawrence.

She is the daughter of Dale Piltingsrud.

Area students graduate from Buena Vista

Buena Vista University held commencement exercises on May 23.

Graduates came from the Storm Lake and Mason City campuses as well as from the BVU Professional and Online Studies and master’s degree program.

Students are listed by hometown, campus location, degree program, major and any honors received.

From Albert Lea: Amanda Schroeder, Mason City campus, bachelor of arts in elementary education, cum laude.

From Alden: Gregory Opseth, Storm Lake campus, bachelor of arts in psychology, magna cum laude.

From Lake Mills, Iowa: Daniel Helgeson, Mason City, Iowa: bachelor of arts in distributive education.

Cassandra Hill awarded scholarship at SCC

Cassandra J. Hill of Geneva, a student in the medical laboratory technician program on the Faribault campus of South Central College, received the Hannah Lips Foundation Scholarship during the college’s annual scholarship awards ceremony.

Area students named to Gustavus dean’s list

Albert Lea-area students were among those included on the dean’s list for the spring 2009 semester at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter. The list comprises students who have earned a 3.7 grade-point average or higher for the semester.

The following students were included.

From Albert Lea: Laura Hillman and Korbin Wayne.

From Ellendale: Bradley Kruckeberg.

From Hayward: Megan Thompson.

From New Richland: Lynsi Espe.
