Carl Gaudian on Bethany dean’s list
Carl Gaudian, son of Bryce and Cynthia Gaudian of Hayward, was named to the fall 2008-09 dean’s list at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato. Gaudian is a 2004 graduate of Albert Lea High School. To be included, a student must earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or better..
Jessica Nelson accepted at U of M-Duluth
Jessica Nelson
Jessica J. Nelson, daughter of Darwin and Mary Nelson of Glenville, has been accepted for admission to the University of Minnesota-Duluth. She will graduate from Glenville-Emmons High School in May and plans to pursue a career in the medical field.
Amanda Brua accepted at MSU
Amanda Brua
Amanda Brua, daughter of Robert and Anna Hernandez of Albert Lea, has been accepted for admission to Minnesota State University, Mankato, for the fall semester 2009. She plans to major in engineering.
Brua will graduate from Albert Lea High School this spring. She has been active in concert choir and band at ALHS.
Alex Amundson accepted at MSU
Alex Amundson
Alex Amundson, son of Alan and Sue Amundson of Glenville, has been accepted for admission to Minnesota State University, Mankato for the fall 2009 semester. He plans to major in law enforcement.
He will graduate from Albert Lea High School this spring. He has been active in Boy Scouts and Law Enforcement Explorers.
Jennifer Birkhofer on CSB dean’s list
Jennifer Birkhofer, daughter of Dewey and Jan Birkhofer of Albert Lea, has been named to the dean’s list for the 2008 fall semester at the College of Saint Benedict. Birkhofer is a sophomore psychology and art major at CSB.
To be included, a student must earn a grade-point average of 3.80 or better.
Area students on Augsburg dean’s list
Augsburg College has announced its dean’s list for Fall Semester 2008 for its day college program. To qualify, a student must be full-time student and earn a grade-point average of 3.50 or higher.
These students from the Albert Lea area were named to the dean’s list: Mallory Carstens, daughter of Paul Carstens and Jacqueline Carstens of Albert Lea; Jade Larson, daughter of David and Carol Larson of Albert Lea; and Kate Schreiber, daughter of Scott and Kristin Schreiber of Albert Lea.
James Swenson on dean’s list
James Swenson
James T. Swenson of Albert Lea was named to the fall 2008 semester dean’s list at Minnesota State University, Mankato. He is a student in the college of science, engineering and technology. To be included, a student must earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or better. He is the son of Jim and Frances Swenson.
Craig Budach on Buena Vista dean’s list
Craig Budach from Northwood, Iowa, was named to the Buena Vista University dean’s list for terms one and two. Budach attends the Mason City Buena Vista University Professional and Online Studies location. He earned a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.
Area students on Buena Vista dean’s list
Gregory Opseth of Alden, a senior, and Angela Sime of Northwood, Iowa, a sophomore, were named to the Buena Vista University Storm Lake, Iowa, campus fall 2008 dean’s list. Both earned perfect 4.0 grade-point averages.
Area students receive degrees from ISU
At Iowa State University’s winter commencement ceremonies, several area students were awarded degrees.
From Albert Lea: Daniel Paul Stieler was awarded his doctorate of philosophy in electrical and computer engineering. He was awarded the University Teaching Excellence Award.
From Alden: Tyler Mark Ignaszewski was awarded his bachelor of science degree in logistics and supply chain management; Katherine D. Schulteis, was awarded her bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering, cum laude.
From Hollandale: Jon Peter Van Erkel was awarded his bachelor of science degree in construction engineering.
From Northwood, Iowa: Nicholas Stuart Lee Hovey was awarded his bachelor of science degree in agricultural studies.
Area students on Iowa Lakes fall honors list
Caitlin Moore and Cass Pierce, both of Lake Mills, Iowa, were named to the fall honors list at Iowa Lakes Community College. To be included on the list, a student must earn a grade-point average of 3.25 or better.
Lauren Hartman of Northwood, Iowa, was named to the president’s list for earning a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.
Erin Miller named to Bethany dean’s list
Erin Miller, daughter of Jeffrey and Lori Miller of New Richland, was named to the fall 2008-09 academic year dean’s list at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato. Miller is a 2008 graduate of Albert Lea High School.
To be included on the list, a student must earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or better.
Kelli Meier receives Covenant Award
Kelli Meier of Glenville, a senior at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D., has been named the winner of the Augustana Covenant Award for Community.
Covenant Awards are presented throughout the school year to recognize students who embody Augustana’s five core values: Christian, liberal arts, excellence, community and service. The award for community identifies students who have committed themselves to participation in and serving Augustana’s campus community.
Meier is majoring in religion, philosophy and psychology. She is a member of the residence life staff and serves as president of Colleges Against Cancer. She is involved in FRIENDSLink and Special Olympics. She also volunteers in the community and has served at The Banquet. She is the daughter of Cindy and Mark Meier.
