Check thefts, forgeries reported

Published Monday, March 23, 2009

City and county authorities are investigating a sequence of events based on the thefts of checks from Thompson Sanitation of Clarks Grove.

On Friday afternoon this firm reported to the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office that several checks had been stolen.

A short time later on Friday afternoon the State Bank of Clarks Grove, 2401 Bridge Ave., reported to the Albert Lea Police Department that several individuals had cashed forged checks from the Thompson firm.

Then, about 9:19 a.m. Saturday, three people reportedly tried to cash more of the allegedly stolen checks at the Bridge Avenue bank. Police officers responded and three individuals ran from the bank. Julio Cesar Benites-Zamorano, 24, no address listed, and Virginia Castillo, 27, no address listed, were arrested and the third person escaped.
