Plays, antique fair, breakfasts all happening this weekend

Senior Resources of Freeborn County will hold an antique fair from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Salem Lutheran Church, 115 N. Washington Ave., Albert Lea.

The fair gives participates an opportunity to get an estimate of value for one heirloom, collectible or antique item. There will be a team of antique and auction professionals available to examine each item brought to the fair and give the owner a best estimate of value.

A group of volunteer table hosts invite participants to this event for a $10 donation to Senior Resources. Each table host has space for eight to 10 guests. Thanks to Diamond Jo Casino, there will be a variety of salads, appetizers and cookies for all to enjoy white observing the usual to unique and the common to the rare items be evaluated.

Following is a roundup of events happening in the area this weekend.

Friday, Nov. 20

• The Alden-Conger Drama Department will present two one-act plays: “The Mystery of Mouldy Manor” and “Kiss Me Quick — I’m Double-Parked!” on the Alden-Conger stage at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students.

• A concert and songfest led by Marty Haugen, Mary Preus and Tom Witt will be held at 7 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. There is no charge for the concert, but an offering will be taken.

• Albert Lea Community Theatre will present “Breaking Legs,” an adult comedy, at 7:30 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. For tickets, call the box office at 377-4371.

• The Albert Lea High School music and drama departments will present “Seussical the Musical” at 7:30 p.m. in the ALHS auditorium. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students. They can be purchased at Doyle’s Hallmark, Addie’s Floral and Tone Music.

Saturday, Nov. 21

• First Baptist Church of Albert Lea will hold a missions fundraiser pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Senior Center in Skyline Plaza. Pancakes, sausage, milk, juice and coffee will be served for a donation. All profits will go toward a 2010 mission trip to the mountains of Jamaica, where a team will visit and do work at two orphanages and the Harald Petersen Center. The group’s fundraiser cookbook will also be available for sale at the breakfast for $11 per copy.

• First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea will hold its Holidays Ahead craft and bake sale in Bethany Hall. Coffee will be served from 8 to 10:30 a.m. and lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

• Art Underground, in the historic Bessessen building at 224 S. Broadway Ave., features “Passing the Torch,” the work of Jan Schewe. The exhibit is open from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturdays through Dec. 19.

• American Legion Post 56, 147 N. Broadway Ave., will host a breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Pancakes, eggs, sausage, potatoes, juice and coffee will be served. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 10.

• The Alden-Conger Drama Department will present two one-act plays: “The Mystery of Mouldy Manor” and “Kiss Me Quick — I’m Double-Parked!” on the Alden-Conger stage at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students.

• The Albert Lea Cantori will present the annual “Singing in the Season” concert at 4 pm at the United Methodist Church in Albert Lea. Admission is free, but an offering will be received with proceeds given to the food shelf.
