Tuesday Advent organ recitals at United Methodist Church
Published Saturday, November 28, 2009
The United Methodist Church announces the Tuesday Advent organ recital series.
The recitals run from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. Listeners are invited to bring a lunch, with coffee being furnished by the church.
On Dec. 1, Merle Stensrud, organist at UMC, and Eileen Nelson Ness, director of music at UMC, will be playing both individual selections and organ and piano duets of Advent and Christmas music.
On Dec. 8, Gail Thurnau, organist at Christ Episcopal Church, and Mary Wayne from Albert Lea will present organ and vocal renditions of seasonal music.
Dec. 15 will feature Robert Tewes from Grace Lutheran Church in Albert Lea.
On Dec. 22, Brian Williams from Calvary Episcopal Church in Rochester will be performing.
These half-hour concerts allow the organists to present many styles and both old and new music for Advent and Christmas. All organists presenting concerts are members of the Southeast Minnesota Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. Recitals such as these are being played throughout the United States by members of the AGO each year.
These recitals are open to the public. The United Methodist Church of Albert Lea is a handicapped accessible building.
