Supper will benefit museum library programs

The Freeborn County Genealogical Society will hold a Swiss steak fundraiser supper from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday at American Legion Post 56 in Albert Lea.

Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children under 10 years.

The Freeborn County Genealogical Society merged its library holdings with the Freeborn County Historical Museum’s library several years ago. The genealogical society is supportive of the museum’s library programs and donates funds to its projects.

Tickets are available at the Freeborn County Historical Museum or at the door.

Following is a roundup of other events happening in the area this weekend.

Friday, Oct. 16

• The Pat Waddick art show will be open at the Albert Lea Art Center from noon to 4 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 17

• The Albert Lea Farmers Market will be open in the North Broadway Avenue parking lot from 9 a.m. to noon.

• The Pat Waddick art show will be open at the Albert Lea Art Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• Pogo the Clown (Richard Miller) will collect items at 505 Green Ave. from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a homeless ministry he has began in Pueblo, Colo., with his wife, Jane. The ministry is called Project Happiness. The needs are: stocking caps and baseball caps, gloves, Sweat pants medium to large, thermal tops and bottoms in medium to extra large, sweatshirts or hoodies in medium to extra large, flannel shirts in medium to extra large, jeans 34 to 38 waist, blankets, bandanas, peanut butter (for the sack lunches), wool scarves and coats in medium to extra large. There is also a family with children in need of clothing: jeans 12 to 16 for a girl, medium shirts for a girl, size 4T to 5T clothes for a girl and and 18- to 24-month sizes for a boy.

• Lois West Duffy will sign copies of her book, “Zillah’s Gift,” at Book World in Northbridge Mall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

• The Glenville American Legion Auxiliary will serve a brat and kraut basket or made right basket supper from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Glenville American Legion. Cost is $6 per person. Proceeds will support veterans projects.

Sunday, Oct. 18

• The Albert Lea Alano Society will hold a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon at 1005 N. Ulstad Ave. Pancakes, French toast, hashbrown potatoes, eggs, sausage, coffee and juice will be served. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children 10 and younger.

• The Albert Lea Eagles Club will host a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All-you-can-eat pancakes, eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, juice, milk and coffee will be served. Cost is $6 per person. Proceeds benefit the Fountain Lake Sportsmen’s Club’s Take A Kid Fishing Day.

• Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden will hold its annual harvest dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Alden-Conger School cafeteria. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children under 12 years and kids 5 and younger eat free. Turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, cranberry salad, rolls and homemade desserts will be served. Carry out and delivery orders are welcome by calling Jill at 402-0172. Proceeds will go toward Redeemer’s roof project.
