Published Friday, October 23, 2009

Here are highlights in history for Oct. 19, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune (the Peek for Oct. 23 inadvertently ran Oct. 19):

1987 — A Tribune article said the most popular winter destinations for area “snowbirds” and vacationers were Florida, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Nev., Phoenix, Ariz., the Caribbean and Mexico.

1977 — Freeborn County Sheriff Holland Laak announced that two jailers would be moved to patrolling deputy duties and two new employees would become jailers.

1957 — A new Freeborn County plat book would be presented to each person joining the Farm Bureau organization.
