Men who like to sing sought for holiday barbershop chorus

Published Monday, October 26, 2009

Harmony Junction Barbershop Chorus is looking for men who like to sing to join the Harmony Junction Holiday Chorus.

“If they like to sing, we’ll find a part for them. We’ll give them everything they need,” said member Barry Oliva. The chorus will provide music and learning CDs.

“All they need to do if come and have fun,” he said.

The group will begin rehearsing at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the choir room at Southwest Middle School. Those attending are asked to use the south door of the school.

There will be seven rehearsals before the group’s annual holiday concert. The chorus will put on two concerts on Sunday, Dec. 20, at 3 and 7 p.m., at two local churches. While the concerts are free, an offering will be received, which will be donated to a local charity. The charity has yet to be determined, Oliva said.

Oliva originally got involved with Harmony Junction through its holiday chorus in 1993. “I liked it so much I stayed,” he said.

Oliva said the chorus has members from all walks of life, including farmers, retired pastors, a retired judge, a retired doctor and teachers.
