WEM downs USC volleyball in three

Published Wednesday, September 16, 2009

United South Central head volleyball coach Jolene Bute was left to lament the near-misses Tuesday night when the Rebels faced Waterville-Elysian-Morristown in Waterville.

“One of those nights nothing fell for us and we didn’t get the job done,” Bute said.

USC fell 25-19, 25-19, 25-21 to the Buccaneers, but a number of shots were just wide or clipped the net and didn’t go over.

The Rebels (4-3, 1-1) had leads in both the second and third sets but weren’t able to close out either set as they suffered their first conference loss of the season.

Kayla Stenzel led USC with 13 kills while Val Sahr added 11 and Danielle Koestler nine. Sahr and Stenzel each had four blocks while Carly Peterson led the team with 15 digs. Marielle Schultz recorded 20 assists.

The Rebels face Medford Thursday in Wells.
