Published Friday, September 25, 2009

— Authorities have released the names of the people involved in the Wednesday crash near the intersection of Waseca County roads 22 and 73, in which one person died.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the crash occurred around noon Wednesday after a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero and 1997 Volkswagen Golf broadsided in the intersection.

After the collision, both vehicles rolled, and the Oldsmobile caught fire and burned.

The State Patrol stated 14-year-old Jacob S. Gleason, of Waseca, who was a passenger in the Oldsmobile, died from injuries sustained during the crash.

The driver of that vehicle, Conway J. Shakal, 17, of Janesville, sustained non-lifethreatening injuries.

Leroy Boettcher, 49, of Janesville, who was the driver of the Volkswagen, also received nonlifethreatening injuries, according to the patrol.

Road conditions at the time were listed as dry.

Shakal was taken to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester and was listed as being in serious condition on Thursday.

Boettcher was taken to Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato.

Assisting at the scene were North Air Care, North Ambulance and Waseca Fire.
