Sheriff’s Office urges safety
Published Tuesday, September 29, 2009
In the past few weeks the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office has received and followed up on numerous complaints regarding out-of-state asphalt companies providing poor service in the quality of the project and in charging an inflated price. Some of the companies have also reported to have signed a blank contract, then the contract is filled out later by the company.
Although these complaints are generally civil in nature, the Attorney General’s Office has been contacted regarding these incidents.
Having these recent events in mind, the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office is reminding everyone to never sign a blank contract and to get a second opinion by a local contractor before having any work done.
Juvenile found in vehicle
The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office received a call Sunday evening of a 16-year-old suicidal boy from Faribault County who may have been headed toward Albert Lea. The teenager was later found dead in a vehicle on the side of Interstate 35 near milemarker 1, according to authorities.

I was going to have my driveway paved next week, it would be nice to know the name of the company that they are warning people about. Now I'm worried.

I even called the Sheriff's office. "Sorry, we can't say anything." Well why even put something in the paper then?

eatinsomebugs: They put it in the paper to make the public aware!! The sheriffs dept does not want to be accused of slander but wants individuals to be smart and aware of shady work being done in the freborn CO area. That is their job, public awareness.

It wouldn't be slander if they stated the facts. John Doe signed a blank contract (which is what happened in this case) with "Acme Asphalt" to have a 10' X 10' pad paved and was charged $10,000 to do it. It then wouldn't be slander, just facts.
