You Can Help

The following are some of the volunteer opportunities currently open in Freeborn County. If you can help with any of them or would like to volunteer for other things, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433.

Crime Victims Crisis Center: New volunteers are needed to work with crime victims. Help with group sessions or carry the cell phone to respond to emergencies one or two evenings or weekends a month. Training begins March 22. Call 377-5464 and ask for Michelle to request an application form.

RSVP Knitters: Folks who knit and crochet  have been busy making mittens and caps for school children and lap robes for frail and elderly people.  If you have unwanted washable worsted weight yarn to donate, call Senior Resources at 377-7433.

Mentors: Community Mentor Connection really needs male mentors for boys at risk. This could work well for you and your spouse as an opportunity to give back in our community and change a child’s life. Spend an hour or two a week giving a child a positive role model. Many group activities are planned with costs covered and training provided. Contact Carolyn Smith at 877-232-8399 or starsforkids@yahoo.com.

RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, the Minnesota Board on Aging, and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
