Funeral services for Vernon R. Nasby, 76, of Albert Lea, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church. The Revs. Todd Walsh and Lyndy West will officiate. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, Oakland Township, with military honors accorded by the Freeborn County servicemen’s organizations. Vernon died on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Vernon Roy Nasby was born on Sept. 24, 1931, in Fedora, S.D., the son of Reuben and Elizabeth (Seivert) Nasby. He attended school in South Dakota and as a young man moved with his family working as migrant workers in Arizona, California and Oregon. His last place of employment in Oregon was the Coos Bay Lumber Company.
Vernon served his country in the U.S. Army serving in Korea. In 1951 the family moved to Minnesota. Vernon was married to Marion Schlaak in New Richland. Vernon’s working career in Albert Lea began in 1956 when he purchased the Mobil Station on South Broadway, later selling that business and purchasing the Sinclair Station on “gasoline alley.” In the 1960s he sold and purchased the Spur Station and then in the 1970s purchased the Deep Rock Station, later selling all his property to Wendy’s. On Oct. 24, 1975, Vernon was united in marriage to Delores Christenson Hultgren in Mitchell, S.D. His last business, Nasby’s Radiator Service, was located on South Broadway. Vernon did custom snow plowing, towing and lawn care for over 40 years. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, the Eagles, Moose and Grace Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Delores, of Stewartville; children: Deb and husband Chuck Osowski of Brooklyn Park, Mark and wife Julie Hultgren of Burnsville, Lonny and wife Ann Hultgren of Burnsville, Lenny and wife LouAnn Hultgren of Albert Lea and Sherri and husband Ed Twohey of Stewartville; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters: Elverna and husband Don Kezar of Minneapolis, Marlene and husband Earl Farlinger of Lyle and Shirley Jenkins of Austin; good friends, Jim and Ethel Doty of Albert Lea; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marion; and two twin grandchildren.

sorry to here about vern, i have known vern for many, many years i used to buy gas from him as a teenager and also he worked on some of my cars, i always liked to visit with him, even when i came back to albert lea .

Marlene and Shirley - I remember many good times with Vernon and you two at old Dist #24 school and visits while our Dad were school board members. Also our family was at his wedding to Marion. Too bad we never maintain contact with old friends. My sympathy to you both.
