I don't hate the players, but I do hate that they have the best team that can be bought.
I am not a socialist by any means, but since all the teams are part of the same organization (MLB), there should be a little more equality within that organization - at least by establishing a per-team salary cap. Not necessarily a per-player cap, but per-team. That would limit the number of high-dollar players on any given team, and the possibility of buying a championship.
Having no cap really takes away a lot of the competition. I don't care what they do with the extra money generated in a larger market - use it for performance bonuses or perks within the stadium - whatever you want other than basic salaries. Maybe even put some of it back into the fans' pockets by having giveaways at every game.
I'm not suggesting equally distributing the money between the teams. The money generated in that market should stay there somehow - but there has to be a limit on salaries if we don't want teams to buy their way into the playoffs.
Scurvy, the extra profits go directly into the owner's family's pockets. When people talk about how insane players salaries are just think that the owner makes a lot more then they do.
how about a poll question about NASA's new rocket - like should NASA be spending billions and billions (sure you can find their current estimate) to send people back to the moon in 5 years? or a poll asking how many games the Wolves will win this year. or something to get the extremists going - like should English be made our official national language.
Again as I have said before....... The poll got the attention of individuals and will probably bring people back to look at the responses. Which in turns give the tribune more hits and more views that sells to the consumer and advertisers. So if the poll gets a charge of people.....Job well DONE!!!!
I do not hate the Yankees. I think baseball needs to work out some of these revenue issues. I also think they need to work on getting the games under three hours!
In baseball they have to pay a luxury tax. Teams like the Yankees pay the Twins a lot of money each year. I think they should put in a salary cap. $100 million dollars. In the end it would make teams and the league more money because the season would be that much more exciting. Look what it has done for football.
The Yankees are the poster child of pretencious america: big money, illegal performance enhancing drugs, and a fan base that reflects the team. Another reason why I am lucky not to live in New York.

I like this poll. I am so sick of the crowd shots of their fans also.

Thanks leftys2221.
Somehow, in all the usual discussion about how much athletes are paid, I forgot that the owners get a chunk of it too.
In that case - as obscene as a team owner's salary might seem to some, let the owners keep whatever they are not allowed to spend on payroll.

I hate the Yankees. And I also hate how the Twins tremble and fold in their presence.
Two LA teams, the Yankees & Phils in the final 4 teams. All huge market teams. It is tough for small market teams to compete.
