You know, so many times people make the comment that "if you want ideas, talk to the people that do the work and not just the managers". So, what happens? The city employees, not the department heads, take the time to put their ideas out there and get crucified by the likes of you posters. You can bet they won't be real quick to offer their opinions again!

I agree with those of you who actually have something positive to say. The nay-sayers would rather leave the buildings sitting empty? Sure it would be great to have some retailers in those buildings but its not as if ArtSpace would exactly be kicking people out so they have a building to use. These buildings are empty--and have been that way for years! I say amen and more power to them.

I think what Simonson is trying to say is that a job opening might bring someone to AL to interview but their decision of whether or not to move here is often based on other factors such as quality of life, schools, etc.....

You can't cut Union employees because they are covered under a signed contract. Changes in the terms of the contract can't be made until the current contract expires and they negotiate the next contract.

As far as "upper employee's" they should be covered under the exempt employees which the article said will not have a step increase in 2009.

I would gladly pay $4, $5, or more in exchange for being able to actually enjoy the outdoors in the summer. Heck, it costs that much just for a can of Yard Guard. I can't imagine that people would actually object but I know that they would.

Outoftown---the chain is closing 40% of their stores in Minnesota. Do you honestly believe that the city of Albert Lea is responsible for that??

Amazing! Here is a story about hard-working people who are trying to make a go here and who have nothing but nice comments to say about the customers that they've served but what is the first comment about the article-----negativity. What a sad commentary on our public.

If there was much public input "mostly in favor of it" then what does that say about our elected officials? Are they really serving the interest of the public or the interests of a few?

I have to agree with an earlier post and I am pretty disappointed in the Tribune's coverage, or lack thereof, of this event. I learned more information about the family, and what's happening by checking out the KAAL website. I think the Trib needs to step-it-up!
