I believe that the electrician is a life long resident of Albert Lea, not sure what you mean that they have not hired locally...

Solid E-mail from Brian, he is right, it may be a big box store, but it employs over 80 people, that's 80 jobs albert lea would not have otherwise. Are they all $80k a year jobs, certainly not, but it is still money that stays in town and is used locally at grocery stores and restaurants, among other things. the store adds a large amount to the property tax base every year, if not for the store the residents would have to pick up that tab.
For those complaining, you now have the e-mail direct to the boss, let him know exactly which employees don't do their job, he sounds responsive to the needs of the shopper.
Disclaimer - I am not a HD employee, and actually have to work outside of Albert Lea now due to the economy. We need to appreciate the things that are in town when we have them. Albert Lea is a good town, but a large number of the residents of A.L. have a "woe is me" attitude. I love the town, but there are people who complain about everything, they probably hate the fact that the sun to rise in the east and set in the west.

I say one year in jail to the girls for their offenses, plus registered on the sex offenders list, that is plenty of punishment. The real "jail time" will be living with what they did daily for the rest of their lives.

Has Royce caught on with another team? Does anyone have an update on him?

Norm has done a lot for the state, including bringing the Minnesota Wild to St. Paul, and keeping the Ford plant in Minneapolis up and running by going to Michigan and pleading their case when they were almost eliminated. He has also done good work with the elderly. The National Education Association gave him an "A" grade for his work. How about his work on the 07 farm bill, it contained a lot of good things for minnesota taxpayers. Home values had nothing to do with Norm. Al scares the daylights out of me, I don't see how he will get anything done.

I have a few other heroes between Ty Pennington and Jesus, interesting comment. Congrats to the family, and thank you to everyone who was able to participate in this event, following it from distance and unable to be there, glad to see the outpouring.

Does everything in Albert Lea revolve around job creation and getting more people to live here? The same people that complain about these things will be the ones that complain if the town doubled in size, because of the increased traffic on the roads and lakes, increased crime and infrastrucure cots......
My understanding is that the project was funded primarily with a grant, and the premise of the study is wonderful. Its about bringing the community closer together, and to make positive life changes in lifestyles. Will it create jobs, tough to determine. Will people lose jobs because of it, no. The city put in a sidewalk to complete the loop around the lake, that was much overdue and it is safer for everyone now.
I think those that participated in the program feel good for doing so, and met members of the community that they may have never met otherwise and probably made lasting friendships. Those are the types of things that the study was aiming to improve, the mental aspect of health combined with diet and exercise. I wish we had the project in our town.
Again, kudos to all those who participated. For those who think the town is dying, I would refrain from that, I would say that it is stable, there have not been any changes to the major employers in town in a while, and there is new business coming to town. You need to embrace the small business entrepreneurs because the likelihood of a Fortune 500 company starting a new location in this business environment is next to nonexistent. Mrs. Gerry's started in a house, this is how the town will grow.
And the Cabela's comment, they were never going to come here, we are further south of the cities, and that location is better for East / West traffic from Mankato and Rochester.
