As per the Tribune article from July when the new execuative director was hired:

"Austin will have a salary of $37,500 a year for the full-time position. Benefits include 120 hours of paid time off beginning January 1, 2009, a stipend for medical expenses and an available 403(b) plan with 3 percent match after 1,000 hours of work, all of which is standard with the employee handbook, Madson said."

This is so great! If Artspace chooses our community, it will likely be the greatest thing to happen to Albert Lea in terms of preserving our downtown and creating a revitalized community center that has occured, or will occur within my lifetime! I am so excited at the possibility!

I for one think those raises are perfectly well deserved. They all do a great job, and deserve to be paid the wage that their dedication, education, and professional expertise warrant.

Thanks to all the hard working, often critisized, county employees and commissioners who do their best every day to make Albert Lea and Freeborn County a great place to live!

The comment forum could be so much more useful than it currently is. I have often felt the Tribune should take a bit more responsibility for the comments posted here - legally, "Free Speech" does not apply to privately owned websites.

For example, "Free Speech" does not give people the right to put a sign up in another person’s yard that says something terrible. And likewise, "Free Speech" does not protect the person who owns the yard if they allow the sign to stay there.

For the Tribune to hide behind the "user policy" and claim they should be held harmless is not right.

Anything on this website is here only because the Tribune allows it to be here. If they choose to allow it to be here, they are culpable and responsible for it. If they do not have the time to properly enforce their own user policy by editing or removing posts, or banning repeat offenders, (certainly a near full time job for at least one person), then they need to shut the comment section down.

While I'm positive that everyone who gives to the United Way would be happy to do so with no special thanks, it is still certainly nice to see!!

The greatest thanks belongs to the volunteers who stand out in the cold and who give their time and energy, not just their dollars.

Thank you to all the volunteers and to the people who make the United Way go all year round, and especially to the people who ultimately use the funds to do good work at each of the United Way's partner agencies in Freeborn County!

In these hard times, it is more important that ever to shop locally whenever possible, but buying from businesses with local ownership is even more important. Home Depot and Herbergers are better than Lowes in Owatonna or Macy's in Bloomington, but if you can get similar items at Ace Hardware and Leutholds you are doing even better!

The more effort we make to keep our money turning over inside our own community, the less our local economy will be impacted by the recklessness of Wall Street.

And, I'd like to thank all our local entrepreneurs for betting on Albert Lea and risking their futures to open businesses and make their lives in this community! Let's all support them this Christmas!

I thank the counsel for their time and effort in pairing down the requests from nearly 120K to less than 50K. I'm sure that was difficult and all the requests were for worthwhile causes. I think Vern’s suggestion is wise given the uncertainty we all are facing, but lets hope the city can continue to support these organizations in the future! Thanks again to the counsel for their hard work.

Congratulations to the City for bringing this to fruition! It’s been a long road and having attended all the prior comprehensive plan meetings, I can say that it has been a wonderful and worthwhile process. I have already seen some of the vision in the Plan being acted on as I look at some of the recent developments around town. Its Great!

On City comp plan could be set by end of year
