"Welcome to the real world"? Remember the children not only need to be educated these days they need to be parented. My opinion is that teachers deserve a raise because their workload has increased due to lack of parenting.
By the way, consumate whiners, teachers work about 9-10 months a year and are paid accordingly. If you look at what a person in the "real world" (aka private sector) makes with equivalent education to a teacher you will find that teachers salaries are about 75% of what people in the those sectors make.
In other words, they are paid for the days they work. Also, not only do they get paid for 3/4ths of a year (which they work, so whats wrong with that) they are not allowed unemployment like all of our construction friends that end up making about what a teacher makes in 7 months out of the year, without the direct positive impact on children and society.
Some of you people need a clue, you expect top end education provided for nothing. Grab a book, read it, get a degree, I don't care, just do something besides constantly b!tch!n&!

Out of touch?
You must be old, Mr. Trojan, your statement about poor test scores is ignorant.
One major difference between Business and Schools is that businesses can choose to turn away clients, schools can not. They must take all students no matter what their background.
It is the most short-sighted statement ever when people want to compare test scores across the state. It's like comparing apples and oranges.
Compare schools that are of similar size and demographics and you'll be getting somewhere.
Besides that, if a student takes a standardized test on a computer the only thing that is really measurable is how well that student can do on a standarized test on a computer!
Out of touch? No. Realistic? Yes.
