Uh, anasgrammy, I'm pretty sure the whole article was tongue-in-cheek...

*snort* I noticed that this morning, too.

And I think that's a cop-out for when you run out of excuses for bigotry.

States had laws preventing interracial marriage, and blacks had no rights UNTIL the costitutional amendments were added. So again, how is this any different than when blacks had no rights in this country?

But the point is, religion is not a requirement of marriage. I should know, I got married at the courthouse with nary a religious leader in sight. And even without the religious component, my union is still called a "marriage" because I'm female and my partner is male. Why do the same-sex couples have to use something different?

MissIndependent, I'll take a stab at it since no one else has - would that be like giving blacks separate water fountains or making them ride on the back of the bus? It's not exactly the same was what the whites have, but they're getting their drink of water and taking the bus to get them where they need to go, so it's just as good, right?

Ernie, get in line, I'm still waiting for answers from the right to a couple of my questions.

A religious ceremony is not required for any marriage, and nobody is asking that religious leaders be forced in any way, shape, or form to perform ceremonies for gay couples, so why is religion even being brought into this? What marriage boils down to is a legally binding contract entered in to by two legal, consenting adults. If you have a problem with this, what other contracts do you have a problem with? Should they not be allowed to buy houses? Draw up wills? Heck, I had to sign a contract to get satellite TV, maybe they shouldn't be allowed to have that either. What makes *this* contract so special?

Just because you believe something doesn't make it true. And beliefs should never impair the rights of another human being.

Hey, if you're stupid enough to smoke with your kids in the car, you obviously NEED the state to intervene.
