"some of us don't put up our real names for fear of retaliation, discrimination, etc. I don't get down there much but if you want to know who I am just look for a hottie driving an Escalade or riding in a M-Benz as a passenger and it could be me"

-Seriously? You're a moron!

These are two of the most amazing people! They deserve the best. Their hearts have always been in the right place and that, along with many friends and family, will help them fight this!

The Hawthorne vs Valley comment brings it all back! I grew up two blocks up from Hawthorne and livied there each summer! Beyond having a safe place to be and a ton of activities to keep us active we learned an amazing amount from the overall social interaction with all of the other kids and the Leaders. (Thanks SUE AND ANNIE! ...THATS OLD SCHOOL!)

I was a park leader and play parks director in the mid 90's for 5 years while going to Riverland and St Cloud State. If you had anything to do with the parks when I was around you know we had a blast! T-ball, baseball and softball, the kiddie parades, all the field trips and just the day to day activiites. MANY people are still friends that first met at the park.

Ive had a chance to see many of my "park kids" become park leaders themselves and even more become successful in school, college and early now in their careers (...Murr Dog!) I know it had to do with their being more exposed to many different people and oppertunities and from great learning beyond the class room.

I spent over 15 years as a part of the parks program and I think I only echo what all will say; Jen has her work cut out for her but it isnt a matter of if we can afford to do it...can we afford not to?

So much has already been lost and look at some of the negatives. For this to be successful it has to start early and maintain. Theres great talk of "back to basics." How 'bout good old fashion T-ball and box hockey tourneys, water ballons and the pupet wagon (and not "at"), arts and crafts and field trips. Seeing the parks FILLED all week all summer!

...we've seen what the altrenatives are now, I know its "different" now but we've made it that way. An earlier poster is right, It is time to step up to the plate (...hopefully the T-Ball plate soon!)
