Hurray, another chain that will help with the homogenization of main street America. We will no longer be Albert Lea, MN we will be Anytown USA. Boycott the chains and support the Mom and Pop's.

There is a old business adage "You have to spend money to make money". Yes its too bad that the various owners of the property never put any money into the building, as can be shown by the fact that the city took it away for non payment of taxes. But if the building had been allowed to fall down or had to be taken down it would be a property that would never again provide the city with property taxes. If you dont like how downtown looks than you need to come downtown spend some money at the stores and then the owners will have a few extra coins to use to upgrade what they have. Most likely not going to happen as everyone is too happy to send thier money to bentonville, so some hillbillies can buy overpriced art.

It is not the newspaperman that ensures the right to free speech, it is not the preacher that ensures the freedom of religion, it is the soldier that fights for those rights and freedoms.

Altaxpayer Yours is not a viable arguement. If someone is caught drunk driving and says "Well HE was drunk driving too!" should the first guy get let off, definitely not. Not that I am agreeing with the officers not buckling up, but at the same time they may forget to when they are moving from the fight at the 'gon to the fight at the nasty, or some other equally high priority response.

With as lax as our legal system has gotten on actually punishing people that violate the laws of the land, people have lost all fear of punishment, not to mention the total lack of responsibility for ones actions. It doesnt take a long time of getting told by society that if you do something wrong find something to blame it on, for people to just adopt that mentality and run with it. How many times have we heard the "I'm not fat, I'm big boned" (I say its lack of stopping putting fork to mouth syndrome), or when there is am unrulely child acting up "He has ADD or ADHD" (I call it lack of discipline disorder). As long as people can find ways of shirking their responsibilities we will have this problem. Notice in all this I am not exonerating the cops I am just pointing out that the original theory is still viable.

Big deal so they gave back 1000.00 into the community from which they suck millions. They are probably walmart giftcards that have to be spent there no doubt, so really they handed out nothing.

We still live in a Democracy where MAJORITY rules. In other words, it shouldn't matter exactly how many people completed the survey, if the MAJORITY of the responses want the Police force left alone, then they should be left alone. It seems to me that Winkles has a problem saying no to anyone of the female persuasion, maybe if he stepped up and said no we wouldn't be having this discussion. Just my observations without stating what has been already said.

You are sitting in front of one of the best tools A COMPUTER connected to the internet. Why dont you use it? You sound surprised at the statistic that BBQ's kill more people than guns. Look it up for yourself if you dont believe it. While your at it look up all the other things that kill more people than guns do and see where the dangers lie. I have had more firearms exposure than most people and in all my time exposed to them I have never repeat never seen one fire on its own accord. Loaded or unloaded it lies there as an inanimate object until acted on by the operator. I do agree that too many criminals do end up with firearms but they do that by doing what criminals do and thats break the law. The laws we already have on the books are substantial as long as they are enforced and prosecuted. Ask any Police Officer and they will tell you that their job is to protect society as a whole not the individual, that is your responsibility. If you dont want to protect yourself so be it, just dont impinge my ability to protect myself.

I am the guy driving the 1994 Ford Crown Victoria that I dutifully maintain and take care of. I paid money for it, money I worked hard earning, so I am taking very good care of it. I want it to last for quite some time. It will be easy to spot on the street or in the parking lot as it soon will have a "Honk if I helped you pay for your car" bumper sticker on it. Maybe just maybe if people quit getting something for nothing every time they whine about it, they will learn to appreciate what they have and learn to take care of it.

Very cool. Makes you think of the sacrifices people make for those they don't know, and to continue to provide the freedoms we all enjoy and take for granted.
