Agreed concernedparent. On that note I would like to point out it sounds like the ALPD did a fine job in assisting the victim and apprehending her attacker. What more can we ask for in a case like this? Thumbs up guys/girls!

Can I ask what exactly all the politics have to do with this discussion? I mean even if there was a police officer right on the street the woman still would have been assulted. Am I wrong? Didn't this happen INSIDE an apartment?

I don't know about you, but I am not about to pay more taxes so police officers can patrol inside my own home. Certainly I agree that community funds have there place in conversation, however I don't believe this to be it.

The fact is this person flat out committed violence against another. It happened in private. It's not Obama's fault nor is it our city officials fault. This man chose his actions. It doesn't matter if he's on welfare or where he's from. The fountains in the lake didn't make him do it. It was just HIM.
Let's keep this in perspective.

taxpayer... I am not going to sit here and concede to racism being the right way to go. I stand by my statement. The question wasn't about race...it was about illegals. For that matter a name does NOT necessarily show ethnicity. In this case I can see you want to point fingers at the posibility of a hispanic individual. Well in this area I don't know that I would count hispanic as a minority much anymore. In fact the population is blended beautifully with hispanics and what you probably would call white people. The fact is the chance of the individual being hispanic vs. white was just as great as him being white vs. hispanic.

Not all whites are good/bad. Not all hispanics are good/bad. And good for you that ignorance doesn't have to be forever.

Ignorance breeds racism. It is ignorant to ASSUME that all illegals are violent people. I can go to the list of convictions and pull out wrong doers (violent or non) who are not illegal nor immigrants for that matter. Day after day there are names of our very own Albert Lea citizens born and raised.

The truth will set you free. Good for you. Accepting responsibility for something like this could not be an easy task. I commend you for having the courage. Your character will only grow stronger in your life when you face up to mistakes.

Oh and to add, if you think it's gossip and you are still reading, then point your finger in your own direction!

Speaking out about such matters is not gossip. It's a community speaking out about what it feels. Gossip is done with whispers and usually about non-serious or important things such as whom is shacking up with whom or what so-and-so is hiding in their bedroom. This is a very real topic....a community is shaken and families are being put through the wringer. I think if people expect us to be silent about our feelings then they are expecting our community to revert back to a time where women and children should not be heard. A time where not everyone had a voice. These type of boards are a way to let voices be heard, no matter what the voices have to say. It's not gossip.

I still maintain that normal non-predatorial humans DO NOT need formal training to NOT abuse elderly people in a nursing home that you are working at. Yes, you need training on proper ways to clean, feed, administer medications, provide respect and privacy, but not to NOT intentionally harm them! That's crazy... a five year old wouldn't need training to know what these girls did was wrong. No one has ever told me not stick my finger in someone's rectum that I am caring for, but I have never had the urge to do it.

Why do people think of this as a lynch mob? To me a lynch mob actually gets together and apprehends a person or persons and then physically harms or kills them. We are simply voicing our disdain with some people who actually are being charged with crimes more "lynch-mob-like"! You know... ganging up on elderly people and physically harming them. Hmmm....no this is not a lynch mob. I have no intention of going out to harm anyone.
