Bad things happen, and the crimes themselves don't necessarily reflect on Good Sam or Albert Lea. What has made this a national story is the totally weak response by the county attorney. His charges are a joke, and it is Albert Lea that has become the national laughing stock.

"..threat of jail hanging over them." ???? Why not "registered sex offender"? I really wouldn't care if they got a suspended sentence if they were required to register as sex offenders for the rest of their lives.

Wildbill, the courts presume innocence but I am not required to. If someone admits they did something, why would I pretend they are innocent until they are convicted.

Why isn't Miss Larson charged with rape? She alledgedly commited an act of penetration, and any man would be charged if the roles were reversed.

One of the families of the abused needs to look into the law on private prosecution. In most jurisdictions, it is possible to bring a criminal case forward when the public prosecutor is reluctant. Don't know about Freeborn County, but this is a remedy where the public prosecutors are out of touch with the citizenry.
