Elwood, as the Wiki article you cite states, the Democrats have indeed filibustered drilling in ANWR. However, if you look further down in that same article, the benefits of drilling ANWR are not all that great. The extreme best-case scenario of there being 16 billion barrels of oil there would make a difference of $1.44 per barrel of oil on the market. At 42 gallons of crude oil per barrel (about 44 gallons of refined product after it's "cracked"), this would translate to a whopping 3.25-3.5 cents per gallon difference in the price of gas. This information comes from the Energy Information Administration. Dropping the speed limit back to 55 mph would do far more than drilling ANWR.
