There is a difference between rumble "strips" (found approaching stop signs) and rumble "stripes" (found embedded in the fog lines of freeways and recently reconstructed roads).
The last I've heard, the county engineer is moving away from installing strips due to the "cost of maintenance". I don't know what that entails - I've never seen anyone working on the strips. I agree that these are valuable, and I would like to see an explanation of "maintenance" printed in a future article.
There is a statewide push as part of an overall traffic safety initiative to install the stripes as roads are resurfaced or reconstructed.

The question really is "do the unions want to keep the same number of members paying the same amount of dues, or risk having fewer members paying increased dues?"
With their respective members' employers challenged to cut, or at least not increase, their budgets and spending, the unions need to do the same and live within their budgets.

How about the driver's using common sense and slowing down? Maybe if people slowed down for a minute or two and let them do their work, this would be a non-issue. it does not take very long for them to go past.
"So that Albert Lea can have clean streets?"
The streets aren't cleaned for aethstetics - street cleaning helps keep the sand and debris from winter from entering the storm water system and removes a hazard for motorcycles and bicyclists.

How much of the tax money collected from tobacco products goes right back into Medicare to treat emphysema, cancer, and all the other related diseases caused by smoking? I guess that something that has such a large public health impact, and is paid for by Medicare, should be paid for by taxes on that particular product.
If you don't like "tax", call it a "user fee".........

The unions will never agree to a pay freeze, especially after the contracts have been signed. The dues paid by employees are based on their rate of pay, so if the pay levels freeze, so do the dues the unions receive.

Well, it appears Judge Schwab is as tough on crime as City Attorney Schwab was. Dorman has been a consumer of the criminal justice system for over 10 years. I would like to know the reasoning behind this slap on the wrist.
The article is also incorrect in its description of a downward disposition departure. Sentencing for felonies is based on the crime and how many points a person has accrued through previous convictions. The grid used gives a range that the judge is supposed to follow when issuing a sentence. The judge may, based on extenuating circumstances, depart up or down from the range, but must justify why.
If Dorman fails to complete treatment, that is simply a probation violation, and he should be sent to fulfill his sentence. Downward disposition doesn't have anything to do with that.
Maybe the Tribune should get and print that document so the public knows his reasoning for such a light sentence.

“Why build multimillion dollar facilities and they are there only 15 percent of their time?” Brown asked.
What is he referring to? Hard to tell if this was a good answer or a bad one without knowing the question.....

“Mr. Morales had said that he was very sorry, but she had disrespected him and he had to do it,” the witness’ statement says.
Geez, I'd hate to see him when he's really mad.....
