Where are the AL grads going? I can help answer!

I am a recent AL grad close to graduation from college. I can only offer you my own perspective, but I can imagine my thoughts are similar to many young people from this community. Firstly, jobs. There simply isn't enough attractive jobs in this town. The major employeers are the hospital, school district, and various factories. AL has a fair amount of small businesses as well, but overall there just isn't enough job attraction in Albert Lea for a young person in their twenties. Secondly, and a big one for me, culture. Where can I go weekly and watch music performed? and no not country western or polka. Where can I perform my own musical or writing skills? Where can I see plays a little edgier than "Little House on the Prarie". Sure, there is enough culture in this town to supplement a person in their 50s+, but none whatsoever that attracts any young person. Lastly, the negativity in this town is astounding. On AlbertLea.com and ALTrib.com, we see nothing but bickering and complaining. Nobody wants to move to a town where negativity resounds from one end to the other. If residents would become less negative, stop always cutting down this town and the people in it, AL grads attitudes would change. And yes, I am talking to some of you posters.

NoDFL:

i understand you are a biased conservative lashing out against democrats without any knowledge of the facts, your screen name and comments give it away. i met and saw Walz speak this week at the Union Center. if you would have gone and spoke with him you would realize you are wrong. he has and does stand up to his own party, he voted against the bailout, and is known in the house and one of the best and brighest up-and-commers. please don't call a american hero, teacher, and a recognized patriot a hack. he has passed and created many bills to help americans, everything dies in the senate.

speakup:

this was a major event which was scheduled to include a vice president and included a U.S. congressman and our Secretary of State. No, their haven't been any "republican" events lately that deserved coverage like this. invite Dukakis to Albert Lea and the Tribune will coverate "equally."
