If the comment from someoneshv is truly how the event happened, is this the "GREAT" new law Albert Lea wants to be proud of? Wow-I hope the people of Albert Lea feel safe because if I lived there I would want the police spending their time catching the "REAL" criminals.

I am not sure what the cost is for this type of fine vs. a DUI, but not being able to sit at home and drink (underage or not) seems unfair. It seems like they were being responsible by not being out on the roads endangering someone else.

siouxsuck-
Give it up already. We have heard your broken record comment about the four minors enough. The problem most of us can't comprehend is minors (especially at their age) should know this was drastically inappropriate behavior and report it. Any NORMAL person would have ratted out their friends in this type of situation. Even my five year old nephew has more compassion and knowledge not to do this sort of cruelty so that is why so many people are grouping them together.

The community should not be responsible for the "basic and ethical sensibilities" these sickos lack. It is very evident where the "lack of" came from with Ashton Larson - her dad! I gasped when I heard his pathetic comments on NBC. As a parent, I would be trying to get my daughter therapy, express sympathy for the victims/families, ask for forgiveness for the daughter's actions, and lastly NOT accept the behavior as normal duties for the job.

I sure hope people around the world are not so shallow as to group everyone in Albert Lea based on this case. Many cities have high murder rates, prostitution, drug busts, etc., but we do not go around saying everyone in those cities are grouped into those categories. The hope I have is some wonderful person has been following this story and sees the need to run for Craig Nelson's position so we can finally have the professionalism and unbiased justice that we deserve. Also, please do not connect the DeVries' home with the Good Sam publicity because that family has a heart of gold and deserves respect.

Stop feeling sorry for yourselves! Just be glad you were selected to be part of their home - what an honor. I think it is a wonderful idea and shows how the family keeps giving. Many places rely on fundraisers and I think this is a unique way to support the Hollandale Christian School and food shelf all in one. Just be thankful they are giving the community this opportunity as most makeover homes are probably never opened up to the public. Actually, I thought they should have charged each spectator vehicle $1 when it was being built because I knew the DeVries' family would have donated every single dollar to a worthwhile cause. If you truly would like to see the home and can not afford to pay, perhaps you could put it on your Christmas wish list.

If the administrators/management at Good Samaritan are truly upset over what these sickos did-show the public by getting involved with prosecuting them. The people who should be the most vocal and mad about the petty charges should be the nursing home itself. I understand how you can not watch each employee all of the time, but now you have the opportuniaty and responsibility to these poor victims and their families to make sure these ex-employees are prosecuted to the full extent.

You bet if it was my minor child I would want their name made public! In fact, the tribune would not have to seek out their name because I would call them myself. You know why - because I teach my children proper behavior and consequences. If they would choose intolerable behavior, they should be ready to pay the price in all forms. Kids, teenagers, and adults for that matter need to be more accountable for their actions instead of expecting the attorneys to bail them out.

This is outrageous! Craig Nelson states, "from a personal and emotional standpoint, an outside agency would have been nice to handle the prosecution." What about from your professional standpoint that you should be able to handle anything that comes your way? The public obviously is wondering what your job description is if someone else should be hired to fulfill the duties. I'm baffled you think a third party would be better situated because I feel you are a hired professional that needs to be able to separate personal connections from justice/prosecution. If this is not possible for you, I suggest you do not live where you intend to work as this does not appear to be a good idea for you. According to the article, these girls (if that is what you call them) have been disqualified to work in a MN care facility - too bad there are plenty of other states for them to work in. I think I should contact Dateline or 20/20 to get this awful situation publicized nationwide because this is definitely disturbing. By the way, I work in a hospital and would NEVER even THINK about treating any of my patients in this manner.

Give him credit for the half he does teach you because some teachers do not even teach you that much. In the real world you will not always have your answers handed to you so get used to it. He states this is fairly new for him and he is continuing his research to learn more as well. Learning in life continues even more in adulthood for those who are open to it so please use the internet, library, or other resources to find the answers to your questions that have left you upset with the class. You will only get as much out of a class as you put into it. This class is a unique opportunity that most students are not offered and forensic science is a great career choice.

I do not hear these people complaining-I hear them standing up for what they believe in. I'm looking forward to the new mayor who will hopefully bring in ideas to move the city forward and focus on important agendas. Also, more citizens need to voice their OPINIONS for these unnecessary laws instead of being so passive as you are. A city will never improve if the people don't speak what they truly want and the officials do not listen.
This "magic law" sounds like a joke to me. Many years ago when I was a teenager we did not drink at any friends/adults homes. We would simply get the alcohol and booze cruise in the country. The only times we partied at homes were when the parents/adults were gone. I agree...Let's make better use of the city council meetings on things that will make a real difference.

allake,

I did not personally know Roger Bok, but I feel others in the community agreed with some of his opinions and ideas. The way he conveyed them were not always accepted. You are shallow to say very few people liked him because it seems that is the opinion you formed from only the meetings. The day he passed away several people (that personally knew him and others who knew him only by name) posted wonderful comments about him and their thanks for his stance at the city council meetings.

Mike Murtaugh-

Thanks for being respectful at the meeting with the remembrance of Roger Bok who definitely would have been there. I do not call it a cheap political stunt-you are a man with class. allake is trying to give you a bad reputation because some people are afraid of change. Your emphasis on the city controlling taxes, living within its means, and the community to feel good about their city government is a change well needed. You have my vote!
