Office Olympics liven up the workplace

Published Wednesday, April 1, 2009

There might be a recession happening, but that doesn't mean work has to be drudgery. Maybe you are looking for an idea to liven up your workplace. On Nov. 13, 2008, the staff members of the Albert Lea Tribune enjoyed Office Olympics.

We had races in office chairs. We found out who could carry coffee the fastest. We made paper-clip chains. We had creative origami and a judge to decide the winner. We tossed Sharpie markers, and we shot wadded-up newspapers into a hoop. It was a refreshing break that built staff morale. Not everyone got to participate because the news never stops, but the Office Olympics still livened the office.

Advertising Director Crystal Miller gets credit for organizing the fun.

Watch these photos I took for a review of the action:

Doesn't that look like fun?

They had an "Office Olympics" day on an episode of the US version of "The Office", back when it was still funny. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. I think that episode was from Season 2.
