Walking Moai: week 4

Published Tuesday, July 14, 2009

The totals are coming for week four of the Blue Zones/AARP Walking Moai program. Amazingly, we have 4 teams with over 1 million steps each so far. The leading team, Blood Sweat and Duct Tape, has just over 2 million steps (that's approximately 1000 miles of walking).

Here are the top five teams in the "steps" category:

1) 2,026,860 -- Blood Sweat and Duct Tape (Indian Hills)
2) 1,457,868 -- The Jolly Walkers (Lakeview)
3) 1,403,234 -- AL Lakers (Lakeview)
4) 1,133,564 -- Wanna Hobbie Walkin' Walkers (Hawthorne)
5)      963,141 -- Southside Rockets (Halvorson)

After four weeks, with some totals still trickling in, Albert Lea's moai walkers have taken over 21 million steps. That's approximately 10,600 miles!

Here are the top five teams in the "volunteer hours" category:

1) 52 -- Snow White and the Not So Dwarfs (Southwest)
2) 46 -- The Brooksiders (Lakeview)
3) 39 -- Blood Sweat and Duct Tape (Indian Hills)
4) 27 -- The Jolly Walkers (Lakeview)
5) 24 -- Never Stop (Southwest)

The top five teams in the moai points category are still a little close to call. Hopefully, I'll be able to have those for next week.

Remember, all teams that have 100% of their team members either started or completed with the online Vitality Compass by this Friday will get 2 moai points. Area coordinators, please find out from your teams how many of their members have either started or finished the online Vitality Compass and report those numbers to me.

Thanks everyone! And keep walking!!
