They held true to form in the Brotherhood Dartball League.

Pickerel Lake, which won the regular-season championship with a record of 31-5, added the 1999 playoff title with a pair of lop-sided victories Monday night at the Conger Community Center.

Dartball, a combination of darts and baseball in which participants hurl over-sized darts at a target – under-handed – is a church-related activity designed for fellowship and fun. The season-ending playoff, always a big event for the league, was especially well attended this year, according to league secretary Al Krueger.

&uot;It was great,&uot; said Krueger. &uot;There were 150, 160 men there, and most of the guys stayed the whole night.&uot;

In the quarterfinals, they saw Salem-Albert Lea defeat Conger-Bear Lake 8-7 and Emmons down Lunder-Round Prairie 8-5. Ascension, which was 30-6 in the regular season and just one game away from first-place Pickerel Lake, topped Salem-Albert Lea in the semifinals while Pickerel Lake drilled Emmons 28-6.

In the championship game, Pickerel Lake rolled to a 38-13 victory over Ascension.

&uot;That’s a awful lot of runs,&uot; said Krueger.

Members of the Pickerel Lake team included Mark Behrends, Chris Sorensen, Dennis Schmidt, Jeremy Waters, Josh Sorensen, Corey Wittmer, Dave Sorensen, John Krueger, Gordy Toenges, Leonard Breamer, Ken Lahti and Dave Behrends.

The top 10 averages for the regular season were: Mark Behrends, .802; Chris Sorensen, .755; Dennis Schmidt, .720; Jeremy Waters, .698; Lowell Doppelhammer, .695; Josh Sorensen, .680; Darrell Soper, .675; Rick Walther, .645; Corey Wittmer, .636; and Barry Coughlin, .632.

Krueger said the league again donated to area food shelves, giving $500 to the Salvation Army and $275 to the Winnebago Food Bank.
