ALDEN – Everyone got to play Thursday night for the Alden-Conger High School volleyball team.
They didn’t, however, get to play a whole lot.
The second-seeded Knights needed little time to dispatch Minnesota Academy for the Deaf in a sub-section tournament match at Alden, winning 15-2, 15-9, 15-2.
&uot;We kind of hoped it would have been a little more competitive to get us a little more pumped up for Saturday,&uot; said Alden-Conger coach Jenny Hanson, whose team improved its season record to 14-10.
The Knights advanced to the semifinals Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Rochester Mayo Civic Center against third-seeded Lyle/Austin Pacelli, which defeated Glenville-Emmons 15-6, 15-7, 15-8 Thursday.
&uot; The girls are looking forward to playing in Rochester,&uot; said Hanson.
The Knights served 51-for-58 Thursday, led by Shelly Zeller at 8-for-8 and Alison Newman 10-for-11. Newman had four aces, Zeller two.
Tessa Niebuhr registered 11 kills, going 19-for-20 on attacks. Emily Brummer was 5-for-8 with four kills, Newman 3-for-3 with three kills.
Zeller was 17-for-17 setting with nine assists. Diana Wichmann went 15-for-15 with eight assists, Steph Newman 10-for-11 with five.
If the Knights win Saturday, they’ll play in the sub-section finals Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. at the Mayo Civic Center.
