It is encouraging to see continued community interest in issues such as growth, the courthouse and the school district. Yet, there remain other opportunities to become informed and get involved.
One is Thursday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. in school board room at the current district office, adjacent to the high school. During this meeting, consultant Hazel Reinhardt will present the state demographer’s report of Freeborn County and how population affects school enrollment. Anyone may attend.
And, at 7 p.m. Monday, the school board will consider reorganization of district facilities, including the potential closing of a school to students due to enrollment declines. There’s still time to call your school board representative, and to attend the meeting and become better informed.
Both are important in their affect on the quality of education.
Another chance to get involved will be the upcoming meetings of the county board to discuss an option for courthouse renovation. This is a $12 million decision, which certainly warrants public comment.
In the near future, cleanup of Albert Lea Lake will likely offer other chances for citizens to get involved and have their say.
All are prime opportunities for anyone to affect the future of Albert Lea. We urge everyone to take advantage of them.
