More than once this season, the Albert Lea High School girls’ hockey team has controlled the action on the ice but not on the scoreboard.

On Tuesday, the Tigers did both.

The ALHS girls shut out Faribault 8-0 at the City Arena, outshooting the Falcons 35-14.

Brittany Arendt and Laura Hillman combined for the bulk of the scoring. Arendt, a freshman, scored four goals and had two assists while Hillman, a seventh-grader, had three goals and three assists.

Arendt opened the scoring at 6:42 of the first period, assisted by Hillman. Then came an unassisted goal at 9:47 by Hillman, who again set up Arendt at 11:36.

Hillman scored the lone goal in the second period, assisted by Jasey Porter.

Arendt scored unassisted at 1:12 of the third, then she and Hillman assisted on a goal by Amy Leach at 2:23. Arendt scored on an assist from Frances O’Donnell at 9:25. Hillman scored on assists by Arendt and O’Donnell at 12:07.

There were only four penalties in the game, three on Faribault.

The Tigers improved to 5-6 in the Big Nine and 8-9 overall. They travel to Fairmont for a nonconference game Thursday.

The Albert Lea junior varsity also won Thursday, beating Faribault 2-1. Scoring for the Bengals were Rani Luna and Erin Schlaurbaum, with assists by Lacey Oyer and Bobbie Jo Attig.
