ALHS swimmers drop dual at Mayo

ROCHESTER — The Albert Lea High School boys’ swimming and diving team faced one of the Big Nine favorites Tuesday and lost 96-82 in a dual meet at Rochester Mayo.

ROCHESTER — The Albert Lea High School boys’ swimming and diving team faced one of the Big Nine favorites Tuesday and lost 96-82 in a dual meet at Rochester Mayo.

Mark Hickman claimed the Tigers’ lone victory. He won the 100-yard backstroke, clocking 59.5 seconds. Hickman was second in the 200 individual medley in 2:17.7.

Mitch Johnson took second in two events, the 200 freestyle in 2:02.48 and the 100 free in 58.16.

Hickman, Ben Matheson, Ethan Berg and Patrick Bell combined for second in the 200 medley relay in 1:52.1. Bell, Colton Jensen, Ryan Lowe and Johnson were second in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:40.47. Hickman, Berg, Johnson and Ben Lindeman took second in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:45.47.

Other Albert Lea places: Lindeman, fourth, 200 free, 2:05.9 and third, 500 free, 5:50.72; Matheson, third, 200 IM, 2:24.41; Berg, third, 50 free, 25.24 and fourth, 100 back, 1:05.42; Bell, fourth, 50 free, 25.53; Damian Phillips, fourth, diving, 111.6; Eric Hoeft, fifth, diving, 86.7; Josh Elwood, fifth, 100 butterfly, 1:07.66; Lowe, second, 100 free, 57.31; Jensen, fourth, 100 free, 58.16; Matt Hagen, fifth, 500 free; Tim Pirsig, fifth, 100 breast, 1:16.06.

The Albert Lea junior varsity lost 87-49.

The Tigers, 1-1 in dual meets, return to Rochester for the Rochester Invitational Saturday. The Tigers are home next Tuesday and Friday.
