Because of good interest rates, a new self-insurance policy and disaster relief funding, Freeborn County took in more money than it spent last year.
Overall, revenues came in at 114 percent of the 2000 budget, and expenditures were 101 percent of the budget, said county Finance Manager Bill Helfritz.
&uot;I guess the bottom line is, from a cash flow standpoint, we have $1.7 million that we didn’t have a year ago,&uot; Helfritz said.
The general revenue fund collected $220,000 more in interest than anticipated, but surplus money from most other accounts will be paid out this spring, Helfritz said.
For example, road and bridge fund revenues ended the year at 136 percent of budget because of advances from state construction funds. Those revenues will begin to be paid out when road construction season starts.
Helfritz presented the 12-month income statement at Tuesday’s county board meeting. Freeborn County is doing well from a budgetary and cash-flow standpoint, he said.
&uot;It looks like the county did exceptionally well again last year, and I think it’s due to the county board, administrator and his people,&uot; said Board of Commissioners Chairman Dave Mullenbach.
