Bob Tewes, former music minister at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, will open Crescendo Dynamic Downtown Dining, LLC sometime in May. He hopes the restaurant will become a destination in itself, attracting area diners with excellent food and a unique atmosphere.

&uot; It’s going to be a fine dining establishment, kind of like a bistro,&uot; Tewes said.

Crescendo will serve California eclectic cuisine, featuring fresh ingredients, prime beef and fresh seafood.

&uot; It’s kind of a special place to take a date, or for an anniversary or for businesses,&uot; he said.

Running a restaurant has been a long standing dream for Tewes, who has been cooking seriously for the last 10 years and recently catered the Riverland Community College’s Gala event.

Crescendo will seat 60 guests and feature a grand piano in the dining room as well as an extensive wine list, he said.

&uot;I’m going to be the primary chef, or culinary artist as I call myself, and then I am going to hire additional staff to assist me,&uot; he said.

When he is not cooking, Tewes plans to take a turn at the dining room piano.

To start, the restaurant will be open for dinner Thursday through Saturday. Tewes will accept special bookings for parties of 20 or more on any day by appointment.

Even though he won’t be open for weeks, Tewes has already been taking reservations at his home number.

&uot; It’s a major undertaking, but it should really provide a nice niche in the downtown area, part of the downtown revitalization,&uot; he said.
