They aced it.

The Albert Lea boys brought home the championship trophy from Friday’s tournament at Creek’s Bend Golf Course.

&uot;The kids played well today,&uot; said Christopherson. &uot;They had to play summer rules. For them to play that well on a course all but one of them had never seen, it’s amazing.&uot;

The Tigers won with 312 strokes for 18 holes, followed closely by Austin at 314. Bloomington Jefferson was third at 317, followed by Redwood Valley with 329, Faribault 332, Waconia 335, Lakeville 337 and New Prague 363.

Matt Tubbs and Adam Boelter shared top honors for the Tigers, both shooting 77. Josh Jones and Dan Breuer had 79. Missing the scoring cut were Chris Rebelein, 83; and Josh Tubbs, 87.

&uot;I’m very pleased with our progress,&uot; said Christopherson, whose team is off to a 2-0 start in Big Nine play. &uot;And we can still cut a couple strokes. Playing as well as we are, as young as we are, we are only going to get better.&uot;

The Tigers play Tuesday at Fairmont and host Austin at Green Lea Thursday.
