OWATONNA – It wasn’t the best score of the season for the Albert Lea boys’ golf team, but that didn’t much matter.
On this day, it would have taken one of the best scores in school history to win.
The Tigers settled for second in a Big Nine triangular at Hidden Creek Friday, where host Owatonna fired a blistering 294 for 18 holes. The Tigers had 318 strokes, Mankato West 337.
Dan Breuer led the Tigers with a 78. Adam Elseth, Josh Jones and Matt Tubbs all shot 80. Adam Boelter shot 81, Brett Wuerflein 84.
The Albert Lea junior varsity was also second, with 325. Owatonna had 325, Mankato West 361.
Scoring for the JV were Ryan Thompson, 77; Ross Stadheim, 80; Josh Tubbs, 81; and Robert Moseley, 87.
The Tigers finished 5-3 in Big Nine dual meets and host the conference tournament Monday at Green Lea. Tee off is set for 9 a.m.
&uot;We know there will be some extremely fine teams there,&uot; said coach Doug Christopherson. &uot;I hope we’re able to rise to the occasion.&uot;
