&uot;We had a chance to win it outright,&uot; said coach Louie Toulouse. &uot;I think we’re a little disappointed in that. But we didn’t lose it. We still win the title.&uot;
It’s the Wolverines’ first conference baseball crown since they took the Gopher title in 1991. They’re 13-6 overall and, at 6-2, share the championship with Grand Meadow/LeRoy-Ostrander.
Mitch Meier pitched a complete-game six-hitter in the opener, striking out seven. Seth Stadheim, Andrew Greibrok, Brandon Brackey and Matt Learn all had two hits apiece. Nick Flatness, Jay Wadding and Justin Peterson had one each.
Greibrok took a tough loss in game two, when he struck out five and issued no walks.
Brian Soper was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Brackey had a three-run home run. Stadheim, Richie Mathis and Flatness contributed one hit apiece.
The Wolverines open sub-section against Medford Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Emmons.
