G-E baseball team settles for a split

HARMONY – The Glenville-Emmons Wolverines had a chance to sweep Fillmore Central in a baseball doubleheader Tuesday.

They had to settle for a split.

After winning the opener 2-0, the Wolverines left the bases loaded in the final inning of game two and lost 11-10 at Harmony.

&uot;The first game was well played by both teams,&uot; said Wolverines coach Louie Toulouse. &uot;Both pitchers threw strikes, defensively we played well and we got a couple timely hits.&uot;

The teams combined for 33 hits in game two.

In the opener, the Wolverines took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Seth Stadheim walked, stole second and scored when Andrew Greibrok hit into an error.

In the fifth, Daryl Belshan walked, Stadheim singled and Belshan scored on a suicide squeeze bunt by Richie Mathis.

Stadheim, Greibrok and Matt Learn had hits for G-E.

Mitch Meier pitched a complete game.

Nick Flatness was the leader in game two, going 4-for-4. Learn was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Brian Soper 2-for-3 with three RBIs, Stadheim 2-for-4. Adding one hit apiece were Mathis, Greibrok, Brandon Brackey, Jay Wadding and Meier.

Greibrok started and pitched 2 1/3 innings. Mathis went the next 2 3/3 and Stadheim finished, taking the loss.

The Wolverines’ next scheduled action is a Monday doubleheader against Houston at Emmons.
