In spite of bad weather that shortened the race, 235 riders and nine teams participated in the Freeborn County American Cancer Society Bike-A-Thon Saturday.

The 100-mile trek to raise money for the ACS began at Sibley at 6 a.m. and was scheduled to go through Glenville, Myrtle, Hayward, Geneva, Hartland, Freeborn, Alden and Conger.

Because of wind and rain, organizers called the event at 3 p.m. Any rider who had reached Geneva by then was given credit for the full ride.

Walter Schiltz was the top local finisher, crossing the finish line at 12:35.
