District 241 has had no trouble finding candidates for the principal position at Lakeview Elementary.
Superintendent Dr. David Prescott said the district has received 25 applications so far, but plans to narrow the field to 3 to 5 candidates by next week so interviews can begin. The closing date for applications is Wednesday, he said.
&uot; It’s a lot of applicants – more than I thought we would get – but I think we’re dealing with a good group of candidates to select from,&uot; Prescott said.
Lakeview principal David Paschka announced his retirement earlier this month, and will finish his tenure with the district June 1.
n The board approved a long list of surplus and unusable equipment for public sale. Most of the items are left over from the Central High School building including 730 student chairs, 490 student desk/chair units, 180 tables of various sizes, 75 computer carts, 60 metal stools, 30 typewriters, 10 televisions and two pianos.
A two-day sale or auction will be held sometime in early June, said Bruce Olson, Director of Facilities and Transportation. Teachers and staff members in the district will get one more chance to chose any needed items for their classrooms and offices.
A complete list of items is available from Olson at 379-4808.
n Finance Director Mark Stotts said the district’s negotiations with the teacher bargaining unit of the Albert Lea Education Association will continue through the summer.
Stotts said most of the early meetings involve policy discussion, but the negotiations will eventually move to talk of pay raises and benefits.
&uot;We haven’t gotten into any numbers or figures. It’s still in the early stages,&uot; Stotts said.
n The district will honor this year’s retirees at a reception Thursday at Riverland Community College from 3:30-5 p.m. All friends and relatives of these staff members are invited.
District 241 retirees include Shirley Anderson, Lilah Aas, Dale Jensen, Michael Olson, Edwin Hanson, Donald Kropp, Grace Varland, Duane Scherff, Rory Mattson, Roberta Schroeder, Alice Petersen, Carol Bertelson, Joleen Domes, Nancy Jensen, Rosalie Truax and David Paschka.
