There’s no such thing as a break in the schedule for the Albert Lea Colonels.
Against the Waseca Braves, they didn’t get any breaks on the field either.
The Colonels stranded 10 baserunners, allowed 13 stolen bases and committed eight errors while falling 9-3 Sunday night in a Southern Minny League baseball game at Hayek Field.
The loss left the Colonels 0-4 in league play and 0-7 overall while Waseca improved to 4-1 and 10-4.
&uot;We’re still playing hard, obviously,&uot; said Colonels manager Bill Trygstad. &uot;I think we’re going to improve. We’ve just had a lot of tough games.&uot;
There was some improvement against Waseca.
&uot;Some aspects of the game were better than they have been,&uot; said Trygstad. &uot;We had a few more hits; we’ve just got to get a few more guys hitting.&uot;
The first three batters in the Colonels’ lineup combined for eight of their 11 hits. Tim Davis was 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and a walk, Matt Trygstad 3-for-5 with a double, Brett Damerow 2-for-5. Derek Thorson, Anthony Lowman and Matt Felt contributed one hit apiece.
Derek Anderson started on the mound and went 2 2/3 innings before leaving the game because of an elbow problem. He gave up two runs on five hits, with one walk and two strikeouts.
Adam Berge, a right-hander from Northwood playing in his first Colonels game, pitched the next 5 1/3 innings and took the loss. He allowed seven runs on eight hits, walking two and fanning three.
Ryan Wangen pitched the ninth.
Waseca’s standout lefty, Ryan Krautkremer, went the distance on the mound, striking out nine and walking three. Krautkremer has only lost three times in around 40 decisions the past three years.
After a Monday night game at Austin, the Colonels travel to Owatonna Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. league game.
