BLOOMING PRAIRIE – According to Glenville-Emmons American Legion baseball coach Louie Toulouse, Mitch Meier allowed more hits than he would have liked.
But he made up for it.
The left-hander did not issue a walk while pitching a complete game as Glenville-Emmons won 7-4 at Blooming Prairie Tuesday night.
Meier scattered eight hits while striking out nine batters.
&uot;Obviously, he helped himself out by not walking anybody,&uot; said Toulouse. &uot;He kept the ball around the plate. He gave up a few more hits than he would have liked, but a couple of them were bloop singles. He pitched very well, and we played good defense behind him.&uot;
And they come up with timely hits.
Jay Wadding opened the scoring with a two-run home run in the top of the first inning.
G-E also scored twice in the fifth, when Rich Mathis singled and scored on a double by Paul Kleven, who scored on a Wadding ground out.
The visitors added an insurance run in the seventh as Mike Yocom walked, Mathis reached on a bunt single and Yocom scored on a throwing error.
Mathis and Kleven were both 2-for-4. Adding one hit each were Wadding, Dustin Honsey, Matt Webb and Adam Bremer.
&uot;We had 12 players there tonight, and everyone added something to the win, which was nice,&uot; said Toulouse.
The win improved Glenville-Emmons to 3-4. The next game is Thursday at 6:30 p.m. against Hayfield at Emmons.
