NEW RICHLAND – Coach Louie Toulouse figured the Glenville-Emmons American Legion baseball team had enough hits to win the ballgame.
There were just too many mistakes.
Glenville-Emmons had four baserunning miscues and three fielding errors while falling 3-2 at New Richland in the final game of the regular season.
According to Toulouse, whose team ran its record to 6-5, the blunders on the bases were particularly costly.
&uot;We had four baserunners picked off,&uot; said the coach. &uot;It was very crucial, because three of them would have scored. Those are big baserunning mistakes that cost us a victory.&uot;
Paul Kleven was 2-for-4 with a triple and a double to lead Glenville-Emmons. Matt Learn went 2-for-4, Matt Webb 1-for-2, Nick Flatness 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Mitch Meier pitched all six innings, giving up one earned run on five hits. He walked two and struck out six.
The G-E Legion team opens district tournament play Monday, July 23, with the site and opponent yet to be determined.
