From an offensive standpoint, it was a fairly productive weekend for the Albert Lea American Legion baseball team.
In three games, Post 56 totaled 27 hits and 12 runs.
It added up to zero wins.
The locals were edged 9-8 by the Rochester Patriots after being swept 7-2 and 5-2 by Winona in a doubleheader at Hayek Field.
Against Rochester, Post 56 fell despite outhitting the Patriots 15-10.
Adam Hamberg and Phil Wacholz were both 3-for-5 at the plate. David Dahl and Adam Highum went 2-for-5, Isaiah Parry 2-for-4. Alan Attig, Isaac Walton and Jay Link each added one hit.
Parry pitched the first 6 1/3 innings, allowing six earned runs on seven hits. He walked one and fanned five. Jordan Stadheim took the loss in relief. Hamberg and Highum also pitched.
&uot;We played a real good game,&uot; said coach Dell Dooley. &uot;We hit well, defensively we played well. I probably left Isaiah in a little longer than I should have. That was the difference.&uot;
The difference against Winona was errors. Post 56 had two in each game and they were costly.
&uot;Every error we made killed us,&uot; said Dooley. &uot;They picked up a run or two every time.&uot;
Attig and Dahl were 2-for-4 in game one, with one hit each by Link and Parry. Hamberg went the distance on the mound.
Hamberg and Walton went 2-for-3 in the second game. Link and Parry also hit safely. Walton pitched a complete game.
Post 56, 9-15, opens district tournament play tonight at 6:30 at Austin.
