A top candidate for Freeborn County’s administrator job has withdrawn his candidacy, leaving three finalists in the mix, commissioners said at a meeting this morning.

Ruppert, the county administrator and coordinator in Nobles County, Minn., was the county board’s top candidate for the job, although Commissioner Dan Belshan was concerned that his salary request was thousands higher than the board’s expected range.

Ruppert could not be reached this morning for comment, and the board had not discussed why he withdrew.

One other candidate has also withdrawn, leaving current Freeborn County Human Services Director Darryl Meyer, who is serving as interim administrator; Ronald Gabrielsen, the city administrator and human resources coordinator in Phillipp, Wis.; and Bambridge Peterson, the former county administrator and finance director for Barron County, Wis.

The county board was in session discussing their options as today’s Tribune went to press.
