NEW RICHLAND – It was a tough way to end the season for the Glenville-Emmons American Legion baseball team.
With a bounce here or there, it could have been different.
Glenville-Emmons was eliminated from the district tournament with a 1-0 loss to Dodge Center at New Richland.
&uot;We had a chance to score and didn’t, and they had a chance to score and they did,&uot; said Glenville-Emmons coach Louie Toulouse, whose team finished with a record of 7-8.
The best chance for G-E came in the third inning, when Paul Kleven singled with one out, stole second and took third on a passed ball. An attempted suicide squeeze bunt went foul, and two strikeouts ended the threat.
Kleven and Rich Mathis had G-E’s lone hits.
Mathis pitched a complete game, allowing four hits and one walk with five strikeouts.
&uot;Rich pitched a real nice game,&uot; said Toulouse. &uot;And we made some nice defensive plays around him.&uot;
