Darcy Johnson of Alden got quite a birthday surprise.
She got a phone call at work Aug. 8 – her 38th birthday – from her daughter, telling her that someone from iWon.com had called her home.
Johnson had won the Web site’s $10,000 daily drawing.
&uot;I was kind of in shock,&uot; Johnson said. &uot;I didn’t say much.&uot;
After the reality set in, she faced the task of getting her family to believe her.
She called her husband at work to give him the news. &uot;He said, ‘Yeah, sure you did. I have to get back to work.’&uot;
Her mother was similarly unbelieving. &uot;Yeah, sure,&uot; Johnson said her mother told her. &uot;I’m going to take a nap now.&uot;
Even Johnson is having a tough time believing it.
&uot;I still haven’t seen a check,&uot; she said.
Johnson won the money for using the iWon.com Web site, which rewards users with daily $10,000 drawings, monthly $100,000 drawings and even the chance for a $25 million jackpot.
The site allows user to read news, perform Web searches, get weather forecasts and more. Johnson said she’s been logging on to use the Web through iWon since 1999.
Every time she dialed up, she wondered if this was the time that would net her a big cash prize. But she was realistic about her chances.
&uot;I never thought I would actually win,&uot; she said.
She has a few plans for the money. She, her husband Jeremy and their daughters, Jade, 11, and Megan, 6, were already planning a trip to Florida. As for the rest of the cash, Johnson said she’ll probably save some.
In the meantime, Johnson said she’s going to see if she still has the lucky touch.
&uot;I’m going to try the Powerball,&uot; she said, &uot;and see if my luck is still there.&uot;
