The Alliant Energy Foundation awarded a $5,000 emergency grant to the United Way of Freeborn County in Albert Lea Monday.

The Alliant Energy Foundation awarded a $5,000 emergency grant to the United Way of Freeborn County in Albert Lea Monday. The funds are to help meet an increased demand for services due to the Farmland fire.

Representatives from Alliant Energy’s Albert Lea office presented the check to Jean Eaton, executive director, and Pam Bishop, campaign chair, of the United Way of Freeborn County.

&uot;Our employees advised us of the situation in Albert Lea and requested we provide assistance,&uot; said Carol Toussaint, executive director of the Alliant Energy Foundation. &uot;We’re delighted to help and hope this money will assist families meet everyday needs and get through this challenging time.&uot;

The foundation is a philanthropic organization created when Interstate Power Company, Wisconsin Power and Light and IES Utilities merged to form Alliant Energy Corporation. It is a separate entity and is led by an independent board of directors. All Alliant Energy Foundation initiatives are funded solely by utility shareowners.
